▶︎諸説語源があり、その中でも「International Cloud Atlas (国際雲図帳)」(1985年発行)に紹介された10種類の雲のうち、9番目の積乱雲が一番大きく、下から高い高度にまで伸びる雲であったため、まるでその上に乗っているような気持ちを表している、というものが有力なようです。
Ex) He was on cloud nine after the birth of his son.

wash your hands of somebody/something
:to refuse to be responsible for or involved with somebody/something
▶︎日本語では「足を洗う」と言いますが、英語では「wash someone’s hands of …」で表現します。ちなみに、「wash someone’s hands」だけだと普通に「手を洗う」だけの意味になるので注意です⚠️
Ex) She has already washed her hands of the project.
(彼女はそのプロジェクトとはもう、手を切っている)

からかう、騙す
pull somebody’s leg
:(informal) to play a joke on somebody, usually by making them believe something that is not true
▶︎日本語に訳すと「足を引っ張る」意味ですが、英語では「からかう、騙す」意味になります。
Ex) It’s not true.I’m just pulling your leg.
